Most of the park lies on the plateau and is dominated by miombo. This woodland is richest in the east and there are numerous broad dambos. In the west is the gentle Luangwa Valley escarpment and as the elevation decreases, the woodland becomes thin or stunted. The drainage lines become well-defined rocky streams along which patches of riparian forest and thicket may be found. A small section of the park reaches the valley floor where there is some mopane. Granite outcrops can be found through much of the park, some of which are very large.
