Description:
Loosely tufted annual. Culms 15–100 cm. high, weak, the nodes glabrous. Leaf laminae broadly linear, flaccid, finely scabrid along the nerves below, the inferior narrowed at the base into a false petiole 0.5–5 cm. long. Panicle 3–17 cm. long, loosely spiciform to lanceolate and then shortly branched below, the rhachis loosely hirsute at least in the upper part (rarely puberulous only); bristles 5–10 mm. long in clusters of 2–5, slender, almost straight, scabrid throughout. Spikelets 1.5–2 mm. long, broadly elliptic. Inferior glume 3, the superior 1/2–3/4 length of spikelet. Superior lemma rugose.
