Tufted annual 5-30 cm tall, glabrous or with scattered short spine-like hairs on stems and leaves. Differs from the typical subsp. in the glumes being rounded on the back rather than having a distinct keel, and the nutlets with less evident tubercles. (FTEA) |

Notes: | FTEA has nothing to say about B. densa subsp. densa, except that Hooper regards it as occurring throughout the tropics.
Similar to B. pusilla. Zambian records identified as B. densa are from altitudes ±1000 m, whereas elsewhere the species is recorded from higher altitudes, 1400-2000 m. |
