Description:
Terrestrial herb up to 90 cm tall; stem leafy, lowest sheath-like, mid-stem leaves largest up to 29 x 1.2 cm, erect; inflorescence fairly densely 12-16 flowered; flowers suberect, green with white lip; spur 20-23 mm long, pendent or horizontal, twisted in the middle.
Differs from H. rautaneniana in the minutely papillose sepals, glabrous lip and a straight spur not inflated at the apex. Furthermore differs from H. calvilabris in narrower leaves, non-papillose ovary and narrower petal lobes.
Type location:
Botswana
Notes: Possible species used in the chikanda orchid trade.
Derivation of specific name: pasmithii: named after P.A. Smith a collector in Botswana who collected the type specimen.
Habitat: Water meadows or slow-flowing water to 60 cm deep.
