Description: |
Terrestrial herb 30-45 cm tall growing from ovoid to globose tubers c. 4.5 x 3 cm; stem leafy; leaves 6-8 with lowermost sheath-like, the mid-stem leaves semi-erect or recurved with largest c. 5-8 x 1.5-4.5 cm, ovate or lanceolate; inflorescence 4-10 x 16-17 cm, laxly 2-6-flowered; bracts up to 5.5 cm long; flowers white or cream, spreading, strongly scented at night; pedicel and ovary 5.5-8.5 cm long; dorsal sepal erect, 18-25 x 10-13 mm, elliptic, very convex; lateral sepals deflexed, 20-30 x 10-15 mm, obliquely ovate and rolled lengthwise; petals 2-lobed almost to base; upper lobe 18-27 x 0.5 mm, linear and adnate to dorsal sepal; lower petal lobes curving out and up 40-98 x 1-2 mm, fleshy and horn-like; lip-3-lobed with an undivided basal part c. 2-3 mm long; mid-lobe deflexed 30-45 x 1-2 mm, linear; side lobes diverging, 40-60, linear and slightly narrower than mid-lobe; spur 8.5-14.5 cm long, pendent, much swollen in the apical quarter. |
