Description: |
Geophyte growing from a tuberous rootstock up to 10 x 5 cm producing several spreading stems up to 5 cm long; leaves clustered at stem apices, sessile, c. 3.5 x 2.5 cm, obovate, reddish, glabrous to sparsely hairy on upper surface and with scattered hairs on lower surface, margin ± crisped and fringed with short hairs; cymes simple or reduced to solitary cyathia, peduncles and cyme branches 4-6 cm long, bracts c. 5 x 8 mm, broadly ovate, yellowish-green to red-tinged; cyathia 6 x 4 mm with broadly funnel-shaped involucres, glandular rim c. 1 mm wide, spreading, bright red; capsule 4 x 3.5 mm, obtusely lobed with a pair of minute fleshy ridges along the sutures, exserted on a reflexed pedicel c. 6 mm long; seeds c. 2.75 x 1.25 mm, oblong, 4-angled. |
