Description:
Erect unbranched herb up to 40 cm high, the annual stems arising from an elongate rootstock. Tendrils absent. Leaf-lamina 8–20 × 0.2–0.4 cm, linear, attenuate at the apex, margin entire. Glands of the lamina-base 2, 1–1.5 mm in diameter, on 2 inconspicuous auricles; lamina-glands 10–20, 0.5–1 mm in diameter, in a single row on either side of the midrib. Cymes sessile or with a peduncle up to 5 mm. long, 1–3-flowered in male; bracts and bracteoles 1.5–2 mm long, narrowly triangular to linear, fimbriate at the margin; pedicels 1–3 mm long. Female flower not known. Male flower: (35)40–52 × 3–5 mm (incl. the 10–15 mm. long stipe), narrowly tubular-infundibuliform; hypanthium and calyx-tube 20–23 mm long; calyx-lobes 10–15 mm long, lanceolate, obtuse, dentate; petals c. 4 × 0.66 mm, lanceolate, obtuse, 1-nerved, laciniate-fimbriate near the apex, inserted c. 4 mm below the throat of the calyx-tube; corona consisting of hairs 0.5–1 mm long, scattered from 5–10 mm. above the base of the hypanthium; stamen-filaments 7–9 mm long, connate at the base, inserted on an androgynophore 1.5–2 mm. long; anthers 4 × 1 mm, obtuse, with apiculum c. 0.5 mm long; disk-glands 2–3 mm long; vestigial ovary (incl. gynophore) 1–1.5 mm long. Immature capsule 2 × 1.1 cm, ellipsoid, with a peduncle c. 1 cm long.
