Description: |
Bulb surrounded by dark bulb scales, c. 10 cm wide, narrowing to a neck c. 10 cm long. Leaves glaucous, up to 6 cm broad, distichous in germinating plants, becoming rosulate as more leaves are produced; leaf margins scabrid and slightly undulate; exuding white sap when torn. Scape up to 25 cm long, flowers 3-6 per inflorescence, distinctly pedicellate, pedicels 2.5-3.5 cm long. Perianth tube greenish, 12-14 cm long; segments forming a hooded bell, the apices reflexed at anthesis, keel pale green. Fruits green, turning brown before bursting; seeds numerous, variable in size and shape, floating in water. |
