Description:
Parasitic shrub with mostly pendent branches, up to 2 m long. Leaves opposite to somewhat alternate, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 7–20 cm long, brownish-violet to blue-green at first, maturing dark bronze-green, leathery, hairless except when very young, with 5–9 pairs of lateral veins; petiole 5–20 mm long. Umbels in axils and at old nodes below, 2–4-flowered; peduncle 1–4 mm long; pedicels 0.5–1.5 mm long; bract ovate, 1–1.2 mm long, puberulous. Receptacle 1–2 mm long, puberulous; calyx 0.3–0.7 mm long, obscurely toothed, ciliate. Corolla 2.5–3.5 cm long, yellow, marked orange to red at base and on the lobes or wholly red, puberulous in bud, becoming hairless above and on basal swelling; apical swelling of bud ovoid to globose, 2–2.5 mm long, basal swelling 2–4 mm long, with tube abruptly constricted above for several mm; lobes erect, elliptic, 6–6.5 mm long; tips hardened inside. Berry obovoid-ellipsoid, 7–8 mm long, blood-red.

Notes: Only collected once in Zambia but appearing fairly frequent in that locality.

Habitat: At margins of swamp forest and rivers growing on Syzygium cordatum.
