Description:
Woody perennial herb or shrub up to 3 m tall, smelling of peppermint when crushed. Stems with hairs mostly appressed and directed upwards. Leaves petiolate: lamina ovate-elliptic to broadly elliptic, pubescent; apex acuminate. Inflorescence terminal, dense, 3-14 cm long; bracts 6-12 mm long, numerous, ovate to oblate with apex acuminate to long-caudate. Corolla pink with a white centre, 9-10 mm long; upper lip 2-2.5mm long; lower lip 4.5-6 mm long.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: cryptanthum: from Greek: cryptos meaning hidden and anthos, flower; referring perhaps to the shortly-exserted corollas.
Habitat: In montane forest and associated bushland.
Altitude range: 1800 - 2200 m
