Description: |
Suffrutex growing from an extensive rhizomatous woody rootstock. Stems 1-many, up to c. 50 cm tall, unbranched or sparsely branched, woody at the base, covered in short whitish hairs. Leaves with an unpleasant smell when crushed, 3-whorled or opposite, subsessile, narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate, up to 10 × 2.2 cm, hairy and gland-dotted below; margin with several spaced teeth in the upper half or entire. Flowers in c. 3-flowered axillary clusters, unpleasantly scented, white or creamy-white; corolla tube up to 4.5 cm long, abruptly funnel-shaped at the top; stamens mauve to deep purple, exserted up to 3.5 cm. Fruit deeply 4-lobed, c. 7 × 8 mm, black. |
