Description:
Small erect, slightly succulent perennial herb, with 4-ridged stems 5-15 cm tall. Leaves along the stems and forming a basal rosette at flowering time, ovate-oblong, oblong-lanceolate to linear, 15-90 mm long, fleshy, hairless often purpletinged; stem leaves in 3-4 pairs, much smaller, 4-15 mm long. Inflorescence of dense axillary and terminal clusters. Flowers mauve, blue or whitish. Calyx lobes 1-nerved. Corolla lobes c. 2 mm long, elliptic-lanceolate.

Habitat: In seasonally wet places in grassland, on riverbanks and marshes.
