Description:
Shrubby perennial herb up to 1.2 m high with softly woody stems and branches. Leaves elliptic-obovate, up to 11 cm long, mostly hairless; margins entire; petiole up to 2 cm long. Flowers greenish-yellow, in branched umbels. Bracts broadly ovate to almost circular, 1.5-2 cm in diameter. Capsule 8 × 10 mm, deeply 3-lobed with a depressed apex, exserted on a pedicel up to 6 mm long.

Derivation of specific name: transvaalensis: from the Transvaal, South Africa.
Habitat: In sandy soils in deciduous woodland, often in rocky places.
Altitude range: Up to 1400 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Mpumalanga, South Africa.
