Description:
See var. schimperiana for general details. This variety differs in stems usually being pubescent, sometimes only below the insertion of the leaves and bracts on the stem. Young leaves often sparsely hairy beneath.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: pubescent: velvety hairy.
Habitat: Along edges for forest, in clearings and in montane grassland.
Altitude range: 650 - 2300 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, southern Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
