Description:
Purple-tinged, prostrate, much-branched annual herb. Leaves small, ovate; margins obscurely dentate. Flowers terminal or on short axillary shoots, purple-pink, sexes separate on the same plant.
Type location:
West Indies
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: prostrata: lying flat on the ground; prostrate.
Habitat: A common and widespread weed of gardens, roadsides and disturbed areas.
Altitude range: Up to 1650 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Native to Central and southern USA and tropical and subtropical America, and now a widespread weed of the tropics and subtropics.
