Description: |
Herb, small and grass-like, growing from a short, vertical, regularly constricted rhizome with fibrous remains of old leaf bases; roots spongy, cylindrical, often reduced to elongated sessile tubers; leaves fascicled, up to 10 per plant, filiform, 12 -18 cm long, glandular spotted, margins ciliate, leaf bases dilated; peduncle bracteates, terete, glandular spotted, up to 75 cm long, sterile bracts lanceolate; inflorescence a panicle with up to 7 branches, c. 60 cm long, sometimes bearing small plantlets; floral bracts minute, glabrous; pedicles articulated below middle, lower ones 2 per node, upper ones solitary, c. 4 mm long in fruit; perianth white; tepals 3-veined; stamens shorter than perianth; filaments filiform, longer than anthers; style as long as stamen; capsule small, shallow deltoid, glabrous, covered in remains of dry perianth; seeds irregularly folded, c. 0.9 mm across. |
