Description:
Perennial, 0.2─1.2 m tall; stems glabrous or hairy, slightly swollen at base, producing up to 4 stolons. Leaves mostly arising from the base of the stem, glabrous to densely hairy, ligule a dense rim of short hairs. Inflorescence spicate, 6─18 cm long, with many reflexed glomerules. Nutlet white, obovoid. The absence of a rhizome and presence of stolons characterizes this species.

Habitat: Bogs and seasonally wet grassland.
