Description: |
Annual or short-lived perennial with shallow root system; stems many, tufted, bright green, 1-30 cm long, topped by an erect inflorescence bract 5-30 cm long. Leaves absent; leaf sheaths pale brown ending in an acute triangular lobe. Inflorescence a dense apparently lateral cluster of 1-25 sessile spikelets; main inflorescence bract stem-like. Perianth absent. Nutlet dark brown, obovoid, sharply 3-angled, strongly transversely wrinkled on the flat sides, but not on edges. |
