Description: |
Rhizomatous perennial, bright green. Culms 3-angled and winged 19-89 cm long. Leaves with leaf-sheaths reddish-brown to purple; leaf blades absent or reduced to 1 cm long. Inflorescence a simple or compound anthela, primary branches 5-12. Spikelets shiny brown, sessile and at the ends of primary and secondary branches. |

Notes: | Although APD recognizes var. aureo-brunneus I don’t have access to a description or key to distinguish it from the nominate subspecies.
