Description of the genus

Suffrutices. Leaves palmately-nerved, entire to 3-5-palmately lobed, with a conspicuous gland at the base of the central vein. Flowers axillary, solitary or fasciculate. Epicalyx bracts 5, connate at the base and adnate to the calyx. Calyx cup-shaped, deeply 5-fid. Petals pink or mauve. Style-branches twice the number of carpels. Fruit composed of 5 indehiscent mericarps, bearing glochidiate spines on the back.

Worldwide: 6 species in tropical and warm regions

Zambia: 1 taxon.
