Description of the genus

Erect perennials, climbers or lianes. Tendrils present, arising from the peduncle, rarely 0. Stipules triangular, inconspicuous. Leaves simple, entire or lobed or digitately 3-5-foliolate. Inflorescences of condensed cymes. Petals 5. Disk ± entire, clasping the ovary. Style ± conic and very short. Seeds usually 4.

Worldwide: c. 100 species, occurring in the tropics.

Zambia: 4 taxa.
