Perennial herbs. Stems terete or obscurely 3-angled, seldom leafy. Leaves narrow, usually basal, sometimes reduced to sheathing scales. Spikelets with 2-6 flowers, in compact or spreading clusters or solitary and terminal. Glumes distinctly distichous, 2-several, lowest ones empty. Perianth bristles or scales up to 6 or absent. Nut oblong-globular. Worldwide: 28 species mainly in Australia and South East Asia, but also in America, Europe and Africa. Zambia: 0 taxa. |
