Description of the genus

Shrub or small tree with 1-foliolate long-petioled deciduous leaves. Inflorescence racemose, axillary, few-flowered. Flowers 5-merous with androecium and gynoecium dimorphic; sepals 5, imbricate in bud, very shortly connate at the base; petals 5, free, subequal, larger than sepals. Carpel 1. Ovules (1)2(3), inserted near the apex of the ventral suture. Fruit a densely pubescent follicle, dehiscing by the ventral suture. Seeds narrowly ovoid; aril lobate, spreading laterally from the sides of the hilum; cotyledons flattened; endosperm copious.

Worldwide: 1 species in Tanzania and Zambia.
