Chasmanthera Hochst.

Liane with verrucose bark. Leaves simple, with long petioles, suborbicular-subangular, densely hairy; nerves palmate. Inflorescences racemes of 3–5-flowered cymules; bracts filiform, persistent. Sepals with 6–9, the 3 outer bract-like and hairy, the 3–6 inner larger, concave, pubescent outside; petals 6, fleshy, ribbed inside. Fruit drupelets 3, ellipsoid and unequal-sided, apiculate; exocarp coriaceous; endocarp ridged with 3 apical teeth, and 2 ventral narrow marginal wings. Seeds with ruminate endosperm.

Worldwide: Five species in tropical Africa.
