Tall trees. Leaves large, petiolate, with small domatia present in the nerve axils; stipule limbs large, leaf-like or membranous. Inflorescence terminal and/or axillary of 3–many spherical heads; bracteoles linear-spathulate, surrounding the sessile flowers which are free from each other. Flower buds pubescent at apex. Calyx tubes free from each other; limbs truncate or distinctly lobed. Corolla tube funnel-shaped, glabrous; lobes erect not opening very much. Fruit dry, dehiscing septicidally, the endocarp splitting into two valves each with rounded lobes, calyx lobes persistent. Seeds small with winged margins. Worldwide: Three species in tropical Africa. Zambia: 1 taxon. |
