Description of the genus

Small trees or shrubs. Stipules small, deciduous. Leaves alternate; lamina simple, margins entire, leathery, glabrous. Inflorescence cymes, axillary and terminal, pubescent. Flowers white, rather small, receptacle somewhat campanulate. Fruit drupe, somewhat pulpy. Seed 1, sub-erect, cotyledons fleshy, radicle, inferior.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical and sub-tropical America, West Indies and tropical Africa.
