Description of the genus

Annual herbs. Vegetative indumentum consisting of erect flagelliform hairs, intermixed with smaller appressed ± T-shaped hairs on young growth. Stems erect, leafy, branched. Leaves alternate, sessile, or petiolate and broadly amplexicaul, pinnatipartitely lobed or pinnatisect; lobes mostly simple, linear, irregular in length along a midrib, revolute. Capitula discoid, numerous in corymbiform cymes, capitula stalks short. Involucre subglobose-cupuliform (urceolate), phyllaries increasing in size to the inside, somewhat scarious. Receptacle dentate-alveolate. Corollas purple or mauve, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb 5-lobed. Fruit achenes shortly obovoid-oblong, rounded-truncate above with 4–6 low broad ribs separated by narrow grooves. Pappus absent.

Worldwide: 2 species in East Africa.
