Inflorescence heads in corymbs or loose panicles, many flowered, involucre, campanulate; bracts imbricate. Flowers corollas tubular, equal regular; Fruit achenes, oblong, 5-angular; scales. Derivation of name: from a Singhalese name for a plant now known as Blainvillea acmella. Comment: An American genus with a number of species introduced into Africa and other tropical regions. Worldwide: 40 species in tropical America and West Indies. Zambia: 2 taxa. |
