Perennial herbs or subshrubs. Stems and leaves often grey, covered with a cobwebby indumentum. Leaves palmately veined and auriculate. Involucre with a calyculus. Capitula heterogamous, radiate; ray and disk florets yellow. Achenes flattened, obovate with narrow wings or margins and with a substantial carpopodium. Pappus of white caducous setae. Derivation of name: from "cinereus" meaning ash-coloured, referring to the greyish indumentum. Worldwide: 35 species in tropical and South Africa, Madagascar and SW Arabia Zambia: 2 taxa. |
