Erect annual herbs (in ours). Leaves opposite, serrate. Inflorescence of lax panicles. Capitula heterogamous; ray-florets in one row, female, fertile, inconspicuous and yellow; disk-florets bisexual, fertile. Phyllaries 3-5, leafy, exceeding the capitula, spathulate and densely glandular, the inner phyllaries embracing the fertile achenes of the ray-florets.
Receptacular scales convex, clasping and enfolding the florets. Ray-florets with a small 3-lobed ligule; disk-florets tubular. Style 2-fid. Achenes oblong-ovoid, usually curved. Pappus 0.
