Herbs or suffrutices. Leaves alternate, gland-dotted. Capitula solitary on the branches or borne in a loose panicle. Phyllaries in 2 rows, narrow. Capitula discoid, homogamous; florets all tubular, fertile, 5-lobed. Anther-bases sagittate with long tails; style-arms ± flattened, rounded or obtuse at the apex. Achenes cylindric, 10-12-ribbed. Pappus in 2 rows: outer row shorter with ciliate or lacerate scales; inner of longer barbellate to ± plumose bristles. Worldwide: 9 species in Africa, Arabia and the Middle east with one species (P. senegalensis) extending to India Zambia: 1 taxon. |
