Grey-pubescent herbs. Leaves
sessile, alternate, decurrent down the stem; margin entire or dentate. Capitula small, heterogamous, crowded into
small clusters terminal on the branches or in the upper leaf axils. Corolla sordid-whitish. Involucre ovoid or campanulate. Phyllaries few-seriate; outer shorter; inner pubescent, deciduous with the flowers; apex subulate or caudate. Receptacle (in ours)
with aristate, plumose, scales. Outer female florets
filiform, 2-3-dentate. Bisexual disk florets few, tubular,
5-lobed. Achenes small, 4-5-sided. Pappus of numerous minutely
barbellate setae. Derivation of name: after Charles Jeffrey, botanist at Kew (1934-). Worldwide: 1 species in Africa and Madagascar Zambia: 1 taxon. |
