Description of the genus

Perennial herbs or small shrubs. Inflorescence laxly corymbose with long peduncles or capitula solitary. Phyllaries linear and acute to acuminate. Capitula disciform; disk florets bisexual, 5-lobed, yellow; marginal florets female, in 1 row, yellow. Achenes ellipsoid or oblong-ellipsoid, ribbed at the margins. Pappus of few caducous barbellate bristles in 1 row.

Worldwide: 10 species in S and N Africa, extending to Europe
