Perennial. Inflorescence an open, somewhat secund, panicle. Spikelets (1-)2-6-flowered, laterally flattened, the lower 2-4 fertile, terminating above in a lanceolate cluster of rudiments. Glumes 2, subequal, persistent, apex acute; lower 3-nerved, slightly smaller than the upper; upper 5-nerved. Lemmas much exceeding the glumes, 7-nerved; apex 2-lobed or entire, awned from the back below the sinus; awn long, becoming tangled with awns from other florets. Floret callus pubescent, pungent. Worldwide: 1 species in tropical Africa, RĂ©union, Indonesia and the Philippines. Zambia: 1 taxon. |
