Description of the genus

Herbs. Leaves paripinnate, often with ± cup-shaped sessile or stalked glands on petiole and/or rhachis. Flowers in 1-many-flowered racemes; pedicels with 2 bracteoles near or above the middle. Sepals 5. Petals 5, yellow. Stamens (4-5)10, all straight or nearly so. Anthers basifixed, longer than their short filaments. Pods flattened, elastically dehiscent, with twisting valves.

Worldwide: c.250 species in the tropics, mostly New World.

Zambia: 1 cultivated taxon.
