Sauromatum Schott

Description of the genus

Small to medium sized geophytic herbs. Tuber subglobose or depressed-globose. Stem abbreviated (not lianescent); higher order leaf venation reticulate; leaf not dracontioid (compare Amorphophallus & Anchomanes). Inflorescence solitary; peduncle shorter than petiole; flowers without perianth of free or fused tepals.

Worldwide: A genus of 9 species, the majority in China. One species in the Flora Zambesiaca area.

Zambia: 1 cultivated taxon.
