Description:
Multi-branched annual with decumbent stems up to 1 m long, often reddish, rooting at the nodes. Leaves distichous, sessile, ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, 1.5-6 cm long; basal sheats often purplish, split to the base, hairless or white-ciliate at the apex. Spaths solitary, leaf-opposed on the long shoots and also densely clustered on short axillary shoots. Spathsslightly falcate, 1.1-2.7 cm long, truncate to cordate at the base; margins free, usually ciliate, 1-3(5)-flowered. Flowers, bisexual, c. 7.5 mm wide; petals pale yellow.

Habitat: Marshy seepage in grassland, stream banks, roadside ditches and disturbed wet depressions.
