Description:
Rhizome c. 1.5 - 3 mm. thick, shortly creeping; rhizome scales dull-brown, lanceolate in outline, up to 2(5.2) mm. long, subentire below and ciliate above. Frond c. 1 cm. apart, stipitate, carnose-coriaceous. Stipe up to 9 cm. long, tomentose at first becoming glabrous with age. Lamina up to 25 × 3 cm., simple, lanceolate or elliptic to oblanceolate in outline, apex with a sharp and rather abrupt point, base narrowly cuneate-decurrent, entire; upper surface subglabrous, lower surface dirty whitish to pale brown, tomentose with two kinds of stellate hairs, the larger with thin straight arms c. 0.7 mm. long-standing above more numerous smaller hairs with twisted matted arms. Sori apical or extending all over lamina, emerging through the hairs.

Derivation of specific name: stolzii: after Adolf Ferdinand Stolz (1871-1917), German missionary, merchant and plant collector in Angola and Malawi, particularly of orchids.
Habitat: On tree trunks and fallen logs in moist evergreen montane forests.
