Description:
Terrestrial herb growing from a tuber with separate fertile and sterile shoots; sterile shoot up to 8 cm tall, leaves conduplicate, to 20 x 1-2.5 cm, linear to narrowly lanceolate, acuminate; inflorescence 7-17 cm, dense, c. 30 flowered, ovary and pedicel 1.5-2 cm long, bracts lanceolate, acuminate, somewhat longer than ovaries; flowers c. 15 mm in diameter, bright red, the posterior petal lobes and inside of the galea usually yellow with bright red blotches; dorsal sepal erect, 7.5-11.5 x 5-8 mm long, rhomboid, subacute, spur pendent, 8-13 mm long, slender, cylindrical; lateral sepals suboblique, 9-10(12) mm long, ovate-oblong, obtuse to rarely apiculate; petals 2-lobed, anterior lobe 4-7 x c.3 mm, narrowly ovate rounded, spreading with the upper margin curved over the anther; posterior lobe erect inside the galea, 7-9 mm tall, oblanceolate, truncate; lip 9-10 mm long, linear, pendent; anther erect, c.4 mm long; stigma sessile, 3-lobed.
