Description:
Perennial herbs up to c. 80 cm tall, growing from a horizontal rhizome. Leaves linear-lanceolate, up to 40 cm long, more or less in 2 rows, overlapping at the base. Inflorescence a panicle consisting of 3-10 racemose branches, each branch subtended by a bract. Pedicels 2-4 per node, articulated below the middle, more or less densely papillate hairy. Flowers greenish-white, papillate hairy. Stamens as long as the tepals; filaments much longer than the anthers. Capsule globose, 3-angled, c. 5 × 5 mm.

Derivation of specific name: pubiflorum: with pubescent hairs on the flowers, referring to the papillate hairs on the tepals and pedicels.
Habitat: In seasonally wet grassland, on floodplains and along river margins.
Altitude range: Up to 1400 m
