Description:
Tree, 2−18 m tall, gregarious, deciduous, bark on bole flaking in roughly square scales; young shoots pubescent; leaflets in 3−4 pairs, shiny, with white pubescent fringe; leaves on coppice often much larger; flowers (February-April) in large, oblique, terminal panicles.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: paniculata: paniculate, in the form of a panicle or branched inflorescence
Habitat: Plateau miombo woodland, where it is often the dominant species. It also occurs on escarpments and Kalahari sands.
Altitude range: 1000 - 1600 m
