Description:
Small tree, sometimes branching from the base, with slender trunk and silver-grey rectangularly fissured bark. Leaves often blue-green, leathery, oblong-elliptic to obovate, up to 14.5 cm long, veining prominent on both surfaces; margin finely toothed; petiole 5–20 mm long, stout, flattened above. Flowers c. 7–16, in more or less condensed heads; pedicels 2·6–4 mm long in fruit, articulated at the base. Sepals orange-red to scarlet, 16–25 mm long, convex and ascending in fruit. Drupelets flattened-ovoid-subcylindric, 10–13 mm long.

Habitat: In Brachystegia woodland.
