Description:
Large spreading tree. Bark flaking in whitish and pale grey patches, giving a mottled appearance. Leaves spirally arranged, up to 12 × 14 cm, palmately 5-9-lobed with lobes ovate-oblong, stellate hairy when young, hairless when older, sometimes with a few hairs remaining at the base of the veins below; base cordate. Flowers in 1-4-flowered axillary and terminal clusters, white to yellowish with a deep red centre, showy, 5-7 cm in diameter, opening only in the mornings. Fruit up to 5 hairy carpels, each with a stiff membranous hairy wing up to 9 × 3 cm, pale straw-coloured with darker markings.
