Description:
Climbing shrub or liane, hairless and without lenticels. Stems smooth, greyish-brown, slightly 4-lined when young but otherwise terete. Leaves oblong, elliptic-ovate or obovate, 3.5-9.5 cm long, thinly textured to slightly leathery, decurrent at the base, midrib and 4-6 lateral veins flat or slightly prominent on both surfaces; margin entire to undulate or glandular serrulate; petiole 5-14 mm long. Stipules broadly triangular, 0.2-0.5 mm long, fimbriate and not united. Flowers numerous, small, in branched axillary heads; peduncles and inflorescence branches 4-angled. Sepals greenish; petals green or white to yellow or orange, 1-1.5 mm long. Mericarps narrowly oblong, c. 3 cm long, flattened, green tinged purple-brown.

Syntypes from Sierra Leone and Angola.

Habitat: In lowland rainforest, dense deciduous woodland and thickets.
Altitude range: Up to 1500 m

Worldwide distribution: Widespread from Senegal to Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Angola.
