Description:
Terrestrial herb, 1-2 m tall. Leaves erect, lanceolate, up to 1.2 m long, plicate with a long petiole. Inflorescence densely many-flowered. Sepals greenish-yellow; petals tinged reddish-brown to red-purple; lip 3-lobed in the apical half, reddish-brown to purple, with whitish papillae on the 5 central veins of the mid-lobe; base of the lip saccate, greenish.

Habitat: In wet places in riverine forest and thicket.
Altitude range: 890 - 1300 m

Worldwide distribution: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, CAR, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi, DRC, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Also in South America.
