Description:
Perennial up to 122 cm tall, with a short rhizome, sometimes stoloniferous, culms tufted, erect when young, later curving and eventually touching the ground. Leaf blade absent, the sheath greyish-black to purple, ending in a short triangular limb. Inflorescence capitate, spikelets in a digitate crowded head.

Derivation of specific name: pectinatus: in the form of a comb.
Habitat: Swamps, lake margins, shallow water, sometimes floating.
