Description:
Tufted, usually geniculate, perennial. Culms 40-120 cm high. Racemes usually 3-5, each raceme 4-11 cm long. Spikelets 2.8-4 mm long, ovate, yellowish-green, paired in 2-4 rows along the rhachis. Upper glume sparsely pilose on the upper surface, ciliate on the margins; upper lemma pallid at maturity.

Habitat: Common on roadside verges, as a weed in lawns and flower beds, sometimes in wet habitats, such as marshes and ditches.
