Description of the genus

Annual, biennial or perennial herbs, often ± aquatic. Leaves simple, entire to pinnate. Racemes bracteate or not. Petals white or yellow. Fruit a silicula or siliqua with seeds in 2 rows under each valve (in ours).

Comment: The treatment of the species in this genus is not clear to me and this has particular implications for Zambia.

I have followed the African Plants Database and sunk R. humifusa under R. madagascariensis. I have also taken R. madagascariensis and R. micrantha to be synonymous. However, the Zambian checklist (Phiri, 2005) treats all 3 species as valid entities. MAH.

Worldwide: 80 species, ± cosmopolitan
