Description of the genus

Slender annual. Stems scapose. Leaves eligulate; bracts leaf-like. Inflorescences congested. Spikes ovoid with many spikelet bracts. Spikelets 10-flowered with scales. Nutlet rounded with a short beak.

Worldwide: Includes 4 species from DR Congo to Ethiopia in the north and Namibia and Madagascar in the south.

Zambia: 2 taxa.
