Description of the genus

Unarmed evergreen trees. Leaves paripinnate; stipules free, or joined together into an intrapetiolar scale; petioles not twisted; leaflets opposite in (1-)2-7 pairs, equal-sided or nearly so at base; without translucent gland-dots. Pods woody, transversely ridged, dehiscing along both margins. Seeds 1-8.

Worldwide: 27 species in Guineo-Congolian forest. One species reaching NW Zambia.
